Is your desk set up causing you pain? Our DSE Workstation Assessments are designed to not only to comply with Health and Safety Regulations but to make changes to improve your work wellbeing and relieve pain.

We assess the space, height, reach and light of your work area whether it is at home or in the office.

All our assessments comply with the legal requirements set out by the Health and Safety Executive and are conducted by Physiotherapists who are not only experienced in this field but treat patients with musculoskeletal conditions on a daily basis.

From the assessment findings we resolve and prevent further issues by making adjustments, provide advice to improve your posture, movement and work patterns, provide physio based exercises and equipment recommendations if required. Following these changes many of our clients feel immediate relief from pain and discomfort.

Small changes in the workstation and ways of working can make a huge difference to discomfort and pain.

We see the results of poor posture and desk set up in the patients that we see in clinic. In addition to treatment a Workstation Assessment is an important part of resolving their pain.

No amount of treatment will resolve pain if our patients return to their desk and sit at a poor workstation.

We are independent of chair and ergonomic suppliers so we provide unbiased recommendations.

Is a Workstation Assessment a legal requirement?

Under the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 as amended by the Health and Safety (Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations 2002, workers who use Display Screen Equipment such as PCs, laptops, tablets and smartphones for more than one hour daily are required to have a workstation assessment.

During the current pandemic, employees who are working from home but anticipate returning to the office upon the relaxation of current government restrictions are classified by the Health and Safety Executive as temporary home workers. In this situation, employers should provide workers with advice on completing their own basic assessment at home. We can help with this.

As the period of working from home extends, employers should be having regular discussions with employees that include a review of their home working arrangements to assess and identify where additional steps are necessary to ensure the risks to employees’ health and safety are appropriately managed. Homeworkers will need training and information about health and safety relating to Display Screen Equipment (DSE).

We provide two levels of assessment and training (see Workshops) to help employers with their legal obligations.

Who is this for?

The DSE Workstation Assessment is for anyone who is using a PC, laptop or tablet and who is feeling discomfort or pain when working or for those who would like to check that their desk area is set up to prevent discomfort. It can be for individuals or for a number of employees from small to large businesses. The DSE Workstation Assessment can be used for those working from home or in an office*.

Is the DSE Workstation Assessment compliant with Health and Safety Regulations?

All our Workstation Assessments are compliant with the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 as amended by the Health and Safety (Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations 2002.

Clinical

This Workstation Assessment is for people who have significant musculoskeletal pain or recent surgery/injuries requiring a visit to a doctor such as:

  • History of significant back or neck pain i.e., prolapsed disc
  • Repetitive strain injury
  • Pregnancy
  • Recent spinal or joint surgery
  • Recent injuries such as whiplash

During this assessment, a detailed medical history of the condition is taken to allow the Tester to understand specific needs and tailor recommendations accordingly.

A thorough evaluation of the workstation and analysis of the working tasks, movement and posture is completed to assess the reach, height, space and light of the workstation.

Anthropometric measurements may be taken to assess the individuals ‘fit’ for the chair and workstation.

At the time of the assessment adjustments may be made, tailored exercises, advice and education about posture, work patterns and ways of relieving pain/discomfort are given if appropriate.

Following the Clinical Workstation Assessment a detailed report of the findings, adjustments made and recommendations will be provided.
